I am interested in playing with the many and promiscuous relationships that are contained in the materials with which I make. To do this, I pay special attention to the processes — societal, industrial and ecological — that inform these materials, and I develop forms that connect to these processes. Through this work I tie together diverse stories of human habitation with the geological stories in order to create layered and subjective expressions of place.
As a multimedia artist working in sculpture, ceramics, and music, my work draws on a variety of aesthetics and traditions. I am particularly interested in the use of site-specific materials, including local clays, plants and bacterial cultures, as well as the sounds and cultural artifacts of the communities in which my art is installed.
